You will then be able to open several documents with current
information about the MAP process.
                                                           Ministry Assessment Process
will allow St. Stephen’s to explore future ministry direction together.

Stage 1:  The Beginning:
  • Our Parish has freely recognized that we have a need in ministry
  • Our parish has agreed to initiate the diocesan ministry assessment program, along with
    other parishes in the diocese.
  • We have been working with our assigned mentor and a Diocesan MAP Resource associate to
better understand the MAP process and expectations.
  • We have completed Stage 1.

Stage 2:  The Design:
a.        Participants:
  • We have a committee consisting of a coordinator and several participants
  • The participants represent:  children, thrift shop, altar guild, kitchen committee, parish council,
    building committee and choir
b.        Questions:
  • The committee has met to identify questions that will help discern St. Stephen’s Ministry.

  • We have complete Stage 2.

Stage 3:  The Story:           Facts, figures and parish stories are collected then analyzed;
their meaning for future ministry is then discerned.
a.       Parish Gathering:
  • The committee meets with the parish at the gathering to record the best aspects of St.
Stephen's (past and present), collects suggestions regarding ministry growth and
    change.                Completed.
b.        Assess and Interpret:
  • Financial and building assessments    Completed
  • We have begun to look at our ministries.
  • What have we found so far?  We have lots going on at St. Stephen's and people have found
their way here and stayed because they have felt welcome, found peace and feel part of the
community we have.  Our building is sound but not adaptable and we cannot continue on our
current financial course and expect to remain viable.
  • The committee will discern what people are saying, imagine a range of future ministry options,
discuss community involvement and assess the potential to sustain healthy ministry now and
    in the future.
  • The committee will create a list of feasible ministry options.
c.        Sharing:
  • The committee will meet to review/amend the drafted “Story document”.
  • St. Stephen’s Story will then be shared with our mentor and the Diocesan MAP Resource
    associate.

Stage 4:  The Decision:        A preferred future is set out and recommended to the Bishop
a.        Choices:
  • The committee will meet and work to decide on ministry direction for St. Stephen’s.

Stage 5:  Making it Happen:        A plan is developed, a covenant is made and implemented
a.        Ministry Plan
  • Parishioners and community work together to give life to the vision, mission and ministry.
